SOULLESS CANVASES

Writer's picture: Wangui Ndung’uWangui Ndung’u

We got caught up in our own appearances. Hiding ourselves in the depths of our self made fabrics. We rattled in the grass searching for easy prey. We lost touch with our own beings, our essence. We devoured what came our way without second thought and threw the carcasses back into the woods.

We exchanged words for words and stares for stares. Boldly presenting ourselves as the strongest of beings. We weaved ourselves deeper into our own deceitful ways and wrapped ourselves with ribbons as the nicest of presents.

We've cut off all strings to our salvation and barred the light at the end of the tunnel. We don't realize it yet, but we've become what we feared the most, soulless canvases, painting our own existence with nothing but doom.

All those pleas for mercy have fallen silent. There is no more prey, just us, to feed on what we've created.
